My Background & Philosophy
|
I learn and use techniques from various traditions, but I never forget that therapy is first and foremost a meaningful, mutual and responsive conversation, supported by an attitude that's caring and fully engaged.
Much of the time, therapy starts in confusion, perhaps with one overriding problem that's making life painful. My understanding of therapy is that it's most important to find out what matters to you, at this place and time in your life, and work from there. I want to know what's most important to you, to start helping where it matters the most. We join together to resolve the troubles in your life, to bring a sense of calmness, the spice of curiosity and the willingness to explore what else life holds for you.
I respect people who come to therapy: it takes courage, and I honor that. Starting where you are means that I'm always learning ways to bring the best understanding I can to our work. I also believe in the power of being with people, the magic of the therapeutic relationship. There's nothing you have to do but show up, and my privilege is to be as present with you as I can be. I've seen people make tremendous, positive change from simply "being" in therapy.
I hope this gives you a sense of how I think about therapy. I'm also happy to answer your questions when we meet.
My Work
|
I believe in finding space to think, to experiment, to breathe. Spending a minute looking at a big sky can sometimes give us the room we need to reimagine our lives.
Looking together helps us see more than we could see alone. Working with feelings and thoughts in the presence of another fosters a sense of belonging, empowerment and trust. |
